Cine Bits - Gossips 2007 (Aug 17 - Aug 30)

Is Rajni & Mani Ratnam coming together?
Is Rajni & Mani Ratnam coming together? If this happens, the film will certainly go down to the history of cinema! Rajnikanth and Mani Ratnam last came together for ‘Thalapathy’ released in 1991. Mammootty, Shobana, Bhanu Priya and Rajnikanth were in the lead of this film produced by GV Films. The buzz has created furor that Rajnikanth is all set to work in his next film and has finalised his next film. Gossipmongers are telling that Rajnikanth has made couple of visits to director Mani Ratnam's office in Chennai. Supposedly the two are planning to do a movie next.

Mani Ratnam has not announced his new film after ‘Guru’. He had plans to commence next starring Aamir Khan. But Aamir is currently tied with the Hindi version of ‘Ghajini’. So Mani is willing to go into his next venture with Rajnikanth, sources suggest.

Sivaji to be dubbed in Hindi :
Sivaji to be dubbed in HindiWith Tamil cinema super star Rajnikanth's latest blockbuster Sivaji - The Boss still running to packed houses in some pockets outside south India, the producers of the film have decided to dub it in Hindi and are planning a post-Diwali release.

"Sivaji will be dubbed in Hindi as the response for the film in Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities outside South India has been overwhelming", said S C Babu, CEO of AVM Productions.

"Some portions of the film will be re-shot to cater to the Hindi-speaking audience and Rajnikanth will dedicate three to four days in shooting", Babu said

Asked whether Rajnikanth will dub his voice in Hindi, Babu said,"Indications are that he is unlikely to do the dubbing".

However, the length of the film will be reduced to two and half hours from the existing three-hour duration as most of the Bollywood films do not exceed the time limit of 150 minutes.

Even though some of Rajnikanth's films were screened outside Tamil Nadu earlier, Sivaji got a rousing response from people who thronged theatres in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.

"Sivaji - The Boss has proved that language is not a barrier when it is Rajnikanth", Babu said.

Swanand Kirkire is penning the dialogues for the dubbed version and is likely to finish his work by October. "But we are planning a post-Diwali release. We don't want to release a dubbed version during the festive season", he said.

The film, which is likely to be released by the end of November, will be screened in not less than 300 theatres across the country.

Sivaji - The Boss is still making huge money in over 15 theatres in Chennai and its suburbs. It was released in more than 500 theatres across the state on 15 June while the Telugu dubbed version was released in 350 theatres.

The film is about the protagonist's fight against black money in society, which Rajnikanth did in his own trademark style with a combination of punch dialogues, comedy, romance, songs and colourful costumes.

Dasavatharam for Pongal :
Dasavatharam for PongalKamal Haasan's much-talked about Dasavatharam was expected for a Deepavali release. But the latest rumors doing rounds is that its release would be postponed and the movie may hit the screens only for Pongal.

With the shooting for the talkies portion of the film and a couple of song sequences completed, two songs remain to be shot. The crew is expected to wind up shooting soon.

The post-production work, including graphics, is likely to stretch out for the next three months. Being the top-notch perfectionist, Kamal said to have insisted on high-quality graphics work and fans could be in for a visual treat.

Featuring Kamal Haasan in ten different roles, the movie features Asin, Mallika Sherawat and Nelpolean in prominent roles. Music is by Himseh Reshmaiyya and direction by K S Ravi Kumar.

I shared quite a relationship with him. He believed in me, and was really patient. I owe him and his family the success that I have tasted now."

Vinay is now acting in a Telugu film, which is a remake of Kannada film, 'Mungaru Male'. He has signed a Tamil film for Sathyajothi Films. When asked if he had faltered with Tamil as he is not acquainted with the language, he says, "Actually, I am quite familiar with Tamil. Most of my friends in Bangalore, where I grew up, speak the language".

After Mozhi, Prakash Raj & Radha Mohan returns! :
After Mozhi, Prakash Raj & Radha Mohan returns! The stupendous success of celluloid classic 'Mozhi' is still alive in everyone’s mind! Once again to relive the magic the terrific team of path breaking producer Prakash Raj and genius director Radha Mohan are coming together for a venture. They’ll once again be working together after a hiatus of six months since the release of the 'Mozhi'.

Their new film is going to be an offbeat venture to be produced under Prakash's Duet Movies. The film has been titled as 'Abhiyum Njanum' and is about the relationship between a father and daughter. Prakash Raj plays the father and Trisha is the daughter. Kushboo plays an important role in the film.

Prakash Raj puts in, "Abhiyum Njaanum is going to be a very different type of film. I will say it is a film about life. We are planning to start the shoot of the movie in Munnar sometime in the middle of October." Composer Vidyasagar has recorded two songs written by Vairamuthu.

I am in no hurry to sign movies :
I am in no hurry to sign moviesYoung actor Jeevan is in no hurry to sign films. He just doesn't grab any film offers that comes his way. In his span of four years in the industry he has done only countable numbers of film. And among them are the blockbuster hits 'Thirutu Payalae' and 'Naan Avanillai'.

Right now he is concentrating on his next titled 'Machaakkaran'. 'Machaakkaran' has Kamna Jethmalani opposite him and is directed by Thamizhvanan of 'Kalvanain Kadhali' fame. The musical score is by Yuvanshankar Raja and cinematography by Venkatesh. About the film Jeevan puts in, "I signed the movie much before Naan Avanillai. The latter's success has made me more cautious and I have given my best in the movie".

He adds, "I am in no hurry to sign movies. I go by the merit of the script. If I come across good offers with a meaty role, I would accept it". His long-pending movie 'Thotta' directed by Selvah is also nearing completion.

Aruvadai ready for kickoff :
Aruvadai ready for KickoffAfter several delays, Mammootty and Arjun starrer Aruvadai will finally go to floors now. The movie directed by Aravindh features Mammootty, Arjun and Jai Akash in prominent roles.

Aravindh says, "It is no regular commercial movie. It dwells on a serious issue. A problem that affects farmers. A heavy budget film with 3D effects and DI graphics would be used in the movie".

"Since it is a movie that offers solution to the problems faced by peasants, we are planning to release the film on Harvest day (Pongal), a festival celebrated to honour the hard work of farmers".

A huge set has been put up at Puzhal Jail and shooting will commence soon, he informs.

Dhanush will resume shooting after a couple of days rest.

Cheran looks for a new beginning :

After Sollamarandha Kathai, Cheran is acting in a film that he has not produced or directed. "I'm happy to be involved in a film that is so different. Here I would say the story is the first hero and the second hero is the director".

The film has Cheran and Sneha in the lead with over 35 well-known artists acting in different roles.

According to the director,’The story is about relationships’.

"We are showing the best of the joint family system and how it nurtures relationships. There are 17 women and none in revealing costumes. Neither Cheran nor Sneha have 'sung' songs since the script does not permit it. Both accepted the situation while taking on the assignment", he expands.

The huge cast includes Mouli, Balasingh, Shanmugarajan, M S Bhaskar, Meesai Murugesh, S N Lakshmi, Sangeetha, Rajalaskhmi, Devadharshini, Vittal and Mahadevan.

A major portion of the movie was shot in grand sets replicating heaven put up by Thottatharani. Now, the crew would be moving to Ambasamudhiram later this month to shoot some important scenes.

Vadivelu says, "The film is all about a youngster who goes to Indiraloham and Yamaloham. In both the places, he is shocked to see that Lord Indira and Lord Yamadharma resembling him. The remaining plot revolves on the encounter between the trio".

On the huge sets erected for the movie, he says, "Producer Manickam Narayanan has invested heavily on grand sets for Indiralohathil Na Azhagappan and Thottatharani has given his best in bringing surprise to the audience. In short, it is a real heaven on earth".

Argument about the PRESENCE OF GOD

Really good one ----

An atheist Professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem

science has with God, The Almighty. He asks one of his new

Students to stand and.....

Prof: So you believe in God?

Student: Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student: Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student : Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal

him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God

didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?

(Student is silent.)

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is

God

good?

Student :Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student : No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Student : From...God...

Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything.

Correct?

Student : Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?

(Student does not answer.)

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these

terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

Student :Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?

(Student has no answer.)

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe

the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?

Student : No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?

Student : No , sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelled your God?

Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science

says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Prof: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Prof: Yes.

Student : No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat,

mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have

anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no

heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing

as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat.

We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of

heat, sir, jus t the absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as

darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of

something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light,

flashing light.... But if you have no light constantly, you have

nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness

isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't

you?

Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue

there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You

are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can

measure. Sir, scie nce can't even explain a thought. It uses

electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully

understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be

ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell

me, Professor. Do you teach your Students that they evolved from a

monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes,

of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize

where the argument is going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at

work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour,

are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a

preacher?

(The class is in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's

brain?

(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's

brain, felt it, touched or smelled it?.....No one appears to have done

so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable,

demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no

brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your

lectures,

sir?

(The room is silent. The Professor stares at the Student, his face

unfathomable.)

Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it, sir.. The link between man & god is FAITH. That is

all that keeps things moving & alive.
